In the reading “Gender Arguments and Paradigmatic Challenges within Intimate Partner Violence Research: A Call for a More Inclusive Paradigm of Understanding Regarding Physical Partner Violence Perpetration” by Corbally (2016), the main focus is on the importance of analyzing the context concerning domestic violence within the society. To be more specific, the author provides tremendous significance to the interdependent relationships within the family bounds as a whole. As a matter of fact, the text gives exceptional attention to the social reality that hegemonic masculinity focuses on men’s dominance over women in interpersonal relations between both genders. It is possible to observe a particular system that regulates and structures the authority and responsibilities assigned to women and men within intimate connections in this society. The reality remains that the social context plays a decisive role when identifying the concept of violence within a community. It is essential to remember that the violence may not only take place in the physical form in terms of hurting the partner through hitting or just physically hurting them. There may be violence regarding psychology; in other words, the male partner may consciously or unconsciously practice psychological violence on the female partner. In general, it is possible to connect the concept of intimate partner violence with family, relationships and physicality, in other words, intimacy.
Further, the development of technology has drastically influenced gender and family relations. To be more specific, due to the rise of social media and a new concept of violence came to life, affecting numerous individuals worldwide. Within the frame of time and space, meaningful ideas evolved and changed due to the globalization process of societies and advances in technology. To sum up, everything that has been stated, domestic violence is an important issue affecting many people, further their helpless victims. Unfortunately, due to cultural and social reasons, individuals from the outside cannot interfere in intimate family relations, making it’s difficult to prevent those toxic patterns of behavior, which is the intimate violence between partners.
